The Ferry Boat Trophy 2026

Today we held the Ferry Boat Trophy, one of the club’s historic races. The forecast had promised rain and westerly winds, but in reality most crews soon found themselves stripping off their wet-weather gear in favour of T-shirts and jumpers.

Four yachts came to the start line: Blue Streak, La-Folie, Elody and Equuis.

Blue Streak crossed the line first, but was soon overtaken by Elody, with Equuis and La-Folie following behind. This order remained largely unchanged until the fleet rounded Glaze Buoy.

At Canewdon Buoy, Equuis managed to pass Blue Streak. The wind then began to increase and Elody, a boat that clearly enjoys a good blow, dug her keel in and headed off towards the finish line.

Elody took line honours, followed by Equuis, Blue Streak and La-Folie. After the handicaps were applied, the finishing order remained the same.

After the race, the crews made their way to the Ferry Boat Inn for a meal to celebrate both the race and the founding of the club in the 1890s. The club was originally formed in the inn’s cuddy, an area which is now, rather appropriately, the Ladies’ loo.

Following the meal, the skipper of Elody was presented with the Ferry Boat Trophy by the Assistant Manager of the Ferry Boat Inn.
