The Measure of a Club
On Saturday 22nd April 2023, the RYA Regional Development Officer Mr Robbie Bell visited the NFYC, for a chat with the committee, to measure how the club was coping after COVID and his last visit some years ago now.
We sat on the club decking in the warm sunshine for over 2 hours, the RYA Regional Development Officer asked questions on how we as a club were getting on and the committee asked about recruiting more new members and running a possible open day.
Mr Robbie Bell left happy and impressed with what he had found, and set course for the TEYC in Southend promising to send Margaret a new up to date RYA Flag for the club.
At 12:00 after the visit by the RYA, our club members arrived with their sails to measure them for the new RORC / RYA Handicap system.
It’s so nice to have a club house where members can stretch out their sails & inspect them, that is after a good hoover to pick up any stones. The Rear Commodore Lee had his MacBook and was able to enter all of the measurements into the sail calculating software, plus the club laptop was on hand for members to submit their final sail calculations and boat specifications to the RORC YTC handicap straight away.
The measuring day started with the Commodore Brian, and Vice Commodore Tim in their socks, with the all important tape measure, as members and their sails arrived throughout the afternoon.
There was lots of Tea & Coffee consumed and all sails flaked & folded correctly and put back in their bags by Norman & Tim.
A big Thank you to all those that turn up, well done and we look forward to a close and competitive series of races.
Brian from Burglar also took the opportunity to collect the winter series 2022 3rd place prize as they were unable to attend the official prize giving. The prize was presented by our Commodore Brian.
