NFYC – Winter Series Race 3

On Sunday 6th November the crews were taken out to their boats by Fambridge Yacht Havens Trot boat (Devon Lass) helmed by Joe a big thank you to you both for your support with NFYC winter racing series.

As 11 o clock came and the Start horn signalled the start, the winds dropped off to a very light breeze. Off went the 7 yachts in to the rain and as the leaders of the fleet S/V Flyer & S/V Vela got to Glaze and Cliff race buoys they mixed with yachts from the RBYC & RCYC who were also out on the river racing and using some of the same racing marks as NFYC.

As the NFYC fleet went around the rounding mark all the crews had to use skills and knowledge of the river to get the most out of their boats as the tide had turned against them. With more drama on Vela as they blew out their head sail having to make a mid race sail change dropping them back to 3rd. The rest of the fleet looking to gain advantage from their miss fortune. Credit to Vela’s crew for the fast sail change, they were back chasing S/V Burgler and pulled away from the yachts at the rear.

Then it was back to the club house, for a bite to eat and a hot cuppa & chat with other club members, who had come down to watch the racing and support the club,

A big thanks to all that makes our Winter series work, too many to list, but without them this series would not work at all.
