NFYC – The Start of the Winter Series Race 1
At the North Fambridge Yacht club, this weekend was the start of our annual winter series, with 7 yachts on the start line ranging from full on racing yachts to a Westerly Centaur with crew of all ages and skills. Our club race officer Pauline set a race course that meant a quick trip to Short pole then back past the club house to Bill Bunyan, then past the club house for the 3rd time, heading down river towards Burnham.
It was a very gusty race with Flyer taking the lead with its new eco friendly silicone anti fouling, hot on its heels was Menhic also with a new slippery bottom, in the middle of the pack was Burglar, Vela and Blue Streak, and at the back Kokomo and Shamir. It was also nice to see other yacht clubs out on the water racing around the cans. As the fleet rounded Cliff and headed back up river passing Bridgemarsh & Raypits before a run for the Finish line, it was nice to see our club members on the patio watching the fleet crossing the finish line.
Must give our thanks to Fambridge Yacht Havens for their continuing support of this event with Devon Lass FYH trot boat ferrying crews to and from their vessels, acknowledgement must also go out to the race officer and her team who do a fantastic job and the duty crew members from each boat that help in serving the meals, selling the raffle tickets and doing the washing up.
The overwhelming response from members & visitors was a great start to the Winter Series.
