Laying Up Supper 2022

On Saturday 22nd October 2022 the North Fambridge Yacht Club held its 124th annual Laying Up Dinner in its historical club house set on the north bank of the River Crouch overlooking the river.

As we celebrated another year afloat, a full programme has been completed; cruising and racing on the river, activities in the Clubhouse, Fitting out supper, Quiz nights, Fun day, BBQ nights, and a bring a tin night to see what we can cook up.

Members gathered in the Clubhouse for a 3 course meal, followed by the Prize giving, of the Club’s competitive sailing silverware. The committee would like to thank all those who donated raffle prizes and bought raffle tickets to win them back. Our very special Everlasting Trophy was won this year by Paul from Flyer, who thought he was fitted up as his partner Caroline picked the winning raffle ticket. We look forward to seeing what he adds to it for next years lucky winner.

We then moved to the auction with two Items this year; a watercolour painting of Woodbridge which started a bidding battle between a husband and wife, then onto a seahorse that had been made out of parts from a gearbox and went to the same member who last year bid for its sister so he now has a nice pair of book ends.

The Committee would like to thank Fambridge Yacht Havens for the support and co-operation with running their Trot boat Devon Lass for the last 4 years.

The next major club event is the Club’s AGM on Sunday 27th November with the Meiklejohn trophy for the best sailing related photo. Don’t forget the Winter series is running at the moment, so why not come down and give your support and enjoy a sociable lunch?
