Commodore Sail Past

On Sunday 22nd June 2025 the annual club Commodore Sail Past took place.
The day started with a committee meeting in the morning, whilst other members prepared themselves and their boat for the afternoon’s festivities.
Although there was a briefing arranged for 13:00 hrs BST by the Rear-Commodore Tim, most of the skippers had attended previous events and were familiar with the process, therefore only needing to discover which boat they were following, which rounding marks on the River had been selected, and the distances involved.

The Commodore (Janet) once finished with the meeting, loaded her visiting family members onto M of M and proceeded to the selected anchoring location.

The remaining Skippers and crews took advantage of the free trot boat and made their way to their vessels on the moorings.

At a prearranged time, the Rear Commodore called everyone to order over the vhf, and 10 boats made their way downriver to form up for the procession at the predefined location.
Unfortunately, one of the boats had to pull out due to an unscheduled and somewhat large water leak when a cooling pipe decided to split at the most inappropriate moment. Fortunately, he hadn’t slipped his mooring at the time.

With everyone in their correct places the boats proceeded to file past the commodores boat, dipping their ensign as in a normal maritime mark of respect, which was duly acknowledged by the commodore.

Once the rear-commodore had called ‘Break’ over the vhf vessels made their way back to their respective moorings, crews and skippers came ashore and met up in the clubhouse, where they welcomed Members of Janet’s family, who were also celebrating a family event. A buffet style tea was provided by Commodore Janet and her family.
In all their were around 40 people attending the overall event.

A good time was had by all and we all look forward to next year.

Many thanks to Tim the Rear-Commodore for his organisation.
Janet the Commodore for accepting this challenging role for 2025, and also for the tea provided.

We all look forward to the next event, which will be a pirate day held up river at Roy Harts property in a weeks time.
